How our Sunday league keeps every match competitive

Most rec leagues sort teams into divisions in September and leave them there until playoffs, so a mis-seeded team can spend months either steamrolling or getting steamrolled. Our Sunday Co-Ed 6s League is built around promotion and relegation, and it's the thing players mention most.

Each week plays out like its own mini-season. Every Sunday night, your division plays a full round-robin. Wins and losses are counted from the first two games of each match; if teams split them, the third game's point differential breaks the tie. At the end of the night, standings are computed with head-to-head record and point differential as tiebreakers.

Then the ladder moves. The top team in each division is promoted up for next week, and the bottom team is relegated down. Win your division and next Sunday you play stronger opponents; struggle, and next week's games are winnable again. Within two or three weeks of a new season, almost every team settles at the level where their matches are genuinely close, and they stay motivated, because one good night moves you up.

There are two seasons a year. The fall edition runs September to December, and a fresh league runs January to May, with new entries welcome. Team entry is $1,140 per season; individuals can join for $190 and get placed on a team that needs players.
